Public Storytime

Storytime is a special time designed for children ages 3 to 6. Public storytime is a 30 minute program which encompasses a variety of activities including stories, fingerplays, flannel boards, crafts, songs and filmstrips. All branches present storytimes weekly. Each program is approximately 30 minutes. Please contact your local library additional information.

Public storytime is designed to:

• Foster a love of language and books.
• Introduce the standard works of literature.
• Help the children to develop basic social skills through cooperation with others in a group.
• Promote the library as an enjoyable place where learning can be fun.

Toddler Time

Toddler Time is a 20 minute program for children ages 18 months to 3 years. The stories, fingerplays, songs and activities used are designed to introduce the standard works of literature based on repetition and rhymes. Several branches present Toddler Time programs. Registration is required and a parent must accompany the toddler. Each program is approximately 20 minutes. Please contact your local library for additional information.

Toddler Time is designed to:

• Bring parents an awareness of quality books appropriate for young children.
• Give parents participatory experiences in sharing literature with their children.
• Introduce the public library as a resource center for parents.
• Give toddlers a happy experience which will lead them to associate books and libraries with pleasure.
