Make a request via the ILL electronic form
What is Interlibrary loan?
The Interlibrary loan Department exists for the purpose of borrowing various library materials (i.e. books, microfilm, audios, newspaper & magazine articles, etc.) which are not owned by the Montgomery County Memorial Library System or the North Harris/Montgomery Community College District. Interlibrary loan is commonly referred to as "ILL".
How much does it cost?
ILL is a free service. Sometimes there is a fee for borrowing materials, but we never agree to a fee without first finding out if the patron is willing to pay it.
Are there materials which cannot be borrowed?
Yes. We cannot borrow any item that was published less than 6 months ago. This rule does not apply to magazine or newspaper articles. Also, most libraries will not lend genealogy materials.
How long does it take to get an item via ILL?
The length of time varies greatly from several days to over a month. If you need an item by a certain date, it is important to make a note of it on your ILL form.
Can ILL materials be renewed?
Sometimes. It depends on the policy of the library which loaned us the item. You must call us at least 4 days before the due date to request a renewal.
How much are the late fines on ILL materials?
.10 cents per day.
Can I return an ILL item to any branch?
Please return your ILL item to the branch where it was checked out, because this is where the paperwork is located. This helps us to speedily return the item to the library from which it was borrowed. Returning materials on time helps us maintain cordial relations with the other libraries in the ILL system.
Can I use the MCMLS ILL service?
If you have a valid MCMLS library card, and do not have fines totaling $10.00 or more, you are entitled to use the ILL service.
How can I submit an ILL request?
There are several ways to submit an ILL request: (1). Fill out an ILL form at your local library. (2). Make a request over the phone (936) 788-8361. (3). Make a request via the ILL electronic form (4). Fill out our website form.
